WHY ADAM WARLOCK ISN’T IN AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR

Avengers: Infinity War screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely have explained that including Adam Warlock in the movie would be been “a massive backbend,” requiring a whole other movie just to introduce the character first. There has long been speculation about the character making an appearance in Avengers: Infinity War, given his strong connections to the Infinity Stones and the Infinity Gauntlet. However, last summer Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn confirmed that Adam Warlock was not a part of Infinity War, while cryptically adding that “he will have a future in the MCU.”

He is an artificially created cosmic being, designed to be the perfect human, who made his Marvel Comics debut more than fifty years ago. In the comics, Adam Warlock is the guardian of the Soul Gem (known as the Soul Stone in the Marvel Cinematic Universe) and has also wielded the Infinity Gauntlet. He notably led the fight against Thanos in The Infinity Gauntlet, the comic book upon which INFINITY WAR is based.

ADAM WARLOCK AND GAMORA WERE TOGETHER IN THE COMICS

Something casual fans might not know is that Gamora and Peter were never a couple in the comics. Gamora’s love-life in the books was pretty flimsy and only consisted of two paramours — original Nova Richard Rider and Adam Warlock.

He may end up being more than a villain in Vol. 3 and might not even remain a villain for long, should he take on the more heroic role he had in the comics. Could his purpose also be to stir up trouble in paradise for Gamora and Star-Lord?

With Warlock being a prominent love interest for Gamora in the comics and her relationship with Peter sure to be the last major plot point of this trilogy, I’d expect to see both Adam and Peter vying for her affections. Why Gamora would fall for Warlock outside of him possibly being very attractive and powerful is unknown, but it would bring extra spice to the story and gift us an entertaining rivalry between Star-Lord and Warlock.

CREATION

Adam was created by STAN LEE and JACK KIRBY as “HIM” and first appeared in Fantastic Four. It is, however, JIM STARLIN that has made the character into what he is today, writing and developing him from the 1970’s right into the 2000’s.

WHO KILLED ADAM WARLOCK IN THE COMICS

Adam and Thanos restore the universes and immediately kill Annihilus and his fleet, ending his threat once and for all. Finally, on Thanos‘ request, the “new”Living Tribunal resurrects the original Adam Warlock from the point he was killed moments before the convergence took place.
